Marriage Transformation
What is Marriage Transformation?

Character
development is about individual transformation. When you practice
character qualities consistently and effectively within your marriage,
this has the power to transform your marriage as well. So, what is
transformation?
Transformation is a deep and vital shift in something or someone, a change
from one state to another. Sometimes transformation happens rapidly,
suddenly, unexpectedly, startlingly, amazingly, or in the twinkling of
an eye. Other times, transformation happens over a long period of time
and requires a great deal of effort. The process can be so slow that it
is difficult for anyone at a particular time to see the progress
underway.
Transformation is a fascinating concept. The world of nature is a good place
to start understanding it. Plants, flowers, and trees start as tiny
seeds. When you look at the seeds, you cannot imagine what will grow
out of them. However, the potential for transformation exists in every
seed. Water, sunlight, and, at times, tender care bring them from one
form to another through a transformational process. A parallel exists
in marriage—when you first marry, you have a glimmer of understanding
of the relationship and family you will create, but much of it is
unknown. Love, care, and nurturing create the marriage over time.
Encouragement of one another’s qualities supports the transformation of
your individual characters and of your marriage.
Creating
a family within your marriage by adding children gives you another view
of transformation. Throughout your children’s lives, you will watch
them grow and develop. A baby starts tiny in the womb of its mother and
grows until it goes through the transformative process of being born
into a new world, a world very different from that within the mother.
The child then goes through many developmental stages over several
years.
Part of growth for human
beings comes through the development of intellect and the
transformation of ignorance into knowledge. Mothers have a vital role
in the education of children so they develop essential self-respect and
respect for others and have strong characters. Together with
mothers, the fathers of the children and then educational institutions
play key roles in raising children to be literate, educated, and
contributors to the world. As an adult, your knowledge continues to
grow. Within marriage, you learn new information and insights that
cause you to behave and interact in new ways.
When
you pair knowledge and reason with spiritual insights and guidance, you
can shift your perceptions and make better life choices. Knowledge of
your character and how to strengthen your qualities are part of this
process. Often these kinds of spiritual insights can be immediately
transformational in their effect on your lives and marriage.
Just
as seeds have within them the potential of becoming plants or trees,
you have the potential within you to bring to life all the character
qualities. These include such gifts as love, kindness, faithfulness,
friendliness, helpfulness,
truthfulness, and trustworthiness. You water these “seeds” both
individually and together through loving God, reading and studying
spiritual books, praying, meditating, practicing, problem solving,
dealing with life’s challenges effectively, and serving others. The
degree to which we are working on the process together in love,
fellowship, and unity often affects the speed of progress.
The
ultimate transformation is creating a planet filled with marriages and
families that are happy, lasting, and spiritually-based.
